Tips to Make Wedding Party Photos Go Smoothly
To be fair, I’ve only had to raise my voice a couple of times during wedding party photos in my 10+ years of shooting weddings :P How you plan the flow of your wedding day REALLY matters, especially when it comes to your photos. Here are some things I’ve learned over the years that help make the wedding party photos go smoothly.
Do a first look with your partner.
This helps give you time to take wedding party photos BEFORE the ceremony and BEFORE the party bus pops off.
Let your wedding party know ahead of time when we’ll be doing photos.
I make a custom wedding day timeline for all of my couples, which allows them to pass it along to the wedding party in advance. That way, everyone knows where they have to be and when.
Keep it simple.
We don’t need tons of props and random shit to get great photos. The less time we spend carrying and setting up props, the better. You’d be surprised how quickly someone from the wedding party can disappear while you’re moving a chair from point A to point B.
Have everyone empty their pockets before getting to our location.
The last thing you want to see in your wedding photos are cell phones and wallets in pockets. It’s distracting. Have everyone empty their pockets in the limo before getting to the photo location. This saves a lot of time and lets us jump right into photos.
If there are things you absolutely do not want in your wedding party photos, tell your friends beforehand.
It’s easier to set expectations before your big day than on the day of. If you don’t want silly faces, cheesy poses or random hand signs, tell them (and me!) so we can give you more of what you want.
