Lisa and John's Summer Beach Engagement Session at Geneva on the Lake in Geneva, Ohio
In high school, I would spend a lot of my summer in Geneva, Ohio. A few of my friends have cabins there, so I always found myself at Lake Erie. There’s something so calming and peaceful about the water. Any time I get the opportunity to shoot at Geneva on the Lake, I jump at it because I love it so much! I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when Lisa and John said they’d like to have their engagement session there! It was especially great because they showed me places in the area that, for some reason, I had never been to. It was so much fun exploring with them!
We started in Harpersfield at the covered bridge. The area was beautiful, with shaded places in the park to relax and areas to walk down by the water. We spent a little time there, but most of our session was at Geneva on the Lake, where it was, thankfully, cooler and breezier. I think we had 90 degree temps that day, so we were very grateful to be by the lake! They brought a blanket and a bottle of their favorite wine from Ferrante Winery, and they were kind enough to give me a bottle to take home (thanks friends!). There weren’t a ton of people where we were shooting, which was a pleasant surprise, but it made the evening much more relaxing. It was like we had our own private beach area, and who wouldn’t enjoy that by the water with a glass of wine?!
As we spent the evening shooting and chatting, they told me a cool story about the proposal. John planned on proposing by a waterfall and a heart shaped rock in Letchworth State Park in New York. They had talked about getting married, but Lisa was completely caught off guard - she had no idea he was going to propose then and there! They took pictures and celebrated. After they returned home, Lisa’s dad showed them some photos that him and his wife took at that same park from a trip many years prior. Lisa and John never saw those pictures before, but ironically, they were standing in the exact same spots as Lisa’s parents in those photos. They had the exact same pose and expressions. Now they unintentionally have these generational photos from this park, which I think is pretty cool!
In a few months, they’ll be getting married at Running Horse Farm in Geneva. The barn where the ceremony and reception will be was actually built by Lisa’s family and the house she grew up in is walking distance from the it. It’s cool to have that kind of history and personal connection to the venue. The wedding is vintage/travel themed with old suitcases, globes, books and dark purple accents. Anyone who knows me knows this sounds like my kinda wedding! I can’t wait to see it all come together in September!!
