Why It’s Important to Vibe With Your Wedding Photographer
You just got engaged and are starting the wedding planning process. What’s the first thing you start to do? Look for different wedding vendors. Do you want to hire someone who suits your style? Yes. Do you want to hire someone that hears your plans and understands what your vision is? Yes. That rings true for any wedding vendor you hire.
What makes your approach to finding a wedding photographer a little different? Out of all of the vendors you work with, you’re spending the most amount of time with your wedding photographer on the day of the wedding, and maybe even throughout the planning process. You obviously don’t want to spend the happiest day of your life around someone who’s company you don’t enjoy, right? You want to be happy that they’re there and trust that they’re documenting everything you see and all of the great moments you don’t.
Not only that, but those photographs that your photographer creates are going to be the lasting visual of your wedding day. They will be the tangible thing you look back on to reminisce. So it’s important to hire someone who understands what you want but also is able to create beautiful photos that really leave a legacy for your family.
With that comes their style and how they photograph YOU as a couple. I think most people want to look at photos and see the best version of themselves. They not only want to look and feel beautiful but also remember all of the wonderful emotions that surrounded that photograph. They want to feel like themselves. I think the best photos are the ones that truly show the beauty of a person from inside out. They’re the photos that you look at and really get a sense of who that person is and how they were feeling. I say all of that to say this - if you don’t have a good relationship with your photographer, the opportunity for these kinds of photos dwindles.
So instead of just investing in a wedding photographer, invest in that person too. Get to know them, let them get to know you. Hire someone who checks all of your boxes as far as photography goes, but also someone you feel comfortable with. Good photos of your wedding day is a big deal. I think it’s an area where a lot of brides have regrets after their wedding because they didn’t hire the right person or went with the cheapest option or decided to cut their budget and have a friend of the family who takes photos for fun shoot their wedding. I seriously hear so many stories about this DAILY, and it truly breaks my heart.
I’m not the type of wedding photographer who’s just going to show up on your wedding day and then send your online gallery and never speak to you again. I don’t function that way. I value the relationships I have with my clients and I value our friendship. I invest in my couples on a personal level because they’ve done the same for me. I speak with my couples often throughout the planning process and really get to know and understand who they are and what they find important for their wedding day and in their daily lives. All of this not only creates a wonderful friendship and relationship with these awesome people, but it makes creating on their wedding day seamless and fun. We don’t get stressed because we have established a bond and trust that says, “Don’t worry - I got you. Let’s enjoy this crazy day and document the best day of your life.”
So when you’re looking through TONS of websites, Instagram accounts and Facebook pages, narrow down the photography style that you love and then dive deep into discovering who the person is behind the camera. Find that pro you vibe with and feel comfortable in knowing they have your back on your wedding day!
