DIY DOG Halloween Costume Photoshoot in Youngstown, Ohio
It's no shocker that I like to take photos of my dogs... ALL THE TIME. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you see their faces quite frequently in my feed and Insta story. Every year it's becoming a tradition to dress them up for Halloween and Christmas. It might be because I love the holidays, or because busy season is slowing down and I need to find a way to spend my time, but it's always a big deal in the Kopachy house. Every year I feel the need to step it up, so I started looking for costumes for these two in September when the Halloween stuff started coming out. If you have a big dog, you know how difficult it can be to find clothes in store that fit their giant bodies, so I thought if I started early I would have more options. I was wrong and spent about a month store-hopping with no luck at all. Of course, Pat Catan's never lets me down! I found a beautiful mermaid fabric and was immediately sold. I'm so glad my mom was with me, because I saw it and instantly looked at her to see if she could sew a mermaid costume because I certainly could not. And a huuuge shout out to my mom for always helping me out with my wild ideas! Seriously, she's the best.
We spent the day working on the mermaid costume. Because the mermaid fabric was thin and flimsy, we added a thicker fabric underneath to help give it more form. Her seashells were made by folding white card stock and we hot glued them to cardboard. The headpiece was made up of colored pearls and basically anything we could get our hands on that looked like it belonged at the bottom of the ocean. For the coral, we used moss and dabbed some teal paint on it to tie in more color to the headband.
While my mom was putting her sewing skills to use, I was cutting away at a cardboard box for Meat's Up costume. After a lot of hot glue, spray paint and construction paper, I had a big ass house that I was sincerely hoping would stay on his big ass body. Then, of course, balloons were the final touch and I grabbed some from Party On right before the shoot. Enjoy these cuties! :P
